Behind The Brand - Oxmantown Skincare - Baba Box

How did your business get started?
I started Oxmantown Skincare while working as a Holistic Therapist. I was treating clients with many different skin concerns and issues. I had just completed my studies in Aromatherapy and I was blending oils from my kitchen table. the demand for my botanical oils grew as did the product range.
Over the years I had travelled to India many times which sparked my interest and learning in Ayurveda, I came to the conclusion that products didn't need to be full of chemicals, but instead I could harness the power of nature using herbs and different parts of plants to heal the skin. And so Oxmantown Skincare was born.

What is behind the brand name and how did you come up with it?

The name Oxmantown comes from the area where the Vikings settled in Dublin, Stoneybatter. It's also where the products are made so I wanted the name and brand to reflect that. We're very proud of being a Dublin based skincare company.

What is important to you as brand?

Integrity, authenticity and honesty are key factors which are of importance. We keep our products free of chemicals; I find there is a value in keeping things simple, products are made fresh and in small batches, We are also cruelty free and we package our skincare in recyclable glass.

What is the best thing about running your own business?

The best thing about owning my own business is being able to create things that I really love and am passionate about.

What do you find the hardest running your own business?

The hardest thing is being disciplined, being your own boss you have plenty of time to procrastinate. I also find not having a team around me to bounce ideas off to be quite difficult. Working by yourself can be quite isolating sometimes.

Working for yourself can be challenging, what do you prioritize for self care?

Self care is so important. I favour walks in the park for mental clarity, yoga to shake out all the knots and meditation for headspace. In the evenings Jade rolling with a good facial oil is also very therapeutic.

Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of taking the plunge and starting a business?

I think the most important things when starting a business is to make sure it's something you are really passionate about. Do your market research, find your target market and from there see how you are going to sell to them e.g are you going to sell online, wholesale or both and make sure your pricing covers such factors. If you have the idea, are willing to pursue it and put in the  hard work then just go for it!

What is next for Oxmantown Skincare in 2020?

In 2020 we have exciting plans  to expand our range of natural skincare. We will be launching new Skin Care gift boxes too.
